Carolyn Lambert's cyanotype from the After Image series

After Images

After Images records all the roofs I’ve lived under using the cyanotype process, sometimes called sun prints.
The project addresses the movement from one place to another and is a record of the precarious and
transient conditions of contemporary life. Subordinating stability to fluctuation and fragility, the
prints are clumsy, the edges are soft, the paper is a bit battered, capturing not only the place but
the process——trespassing onto a lawn and borrowing a neighbor’s hose to rinse the light-sensitive
chemicals from the absorbent paper, and awkwardly drying them in my car.
