WELCOME TO THE C-DISTRICT, 2004
performance, collaboration with Robin Hewlett and Siobhan Rigg
Welcome to the C District was a mobile performance that developed as a response to the Liberty Avenue Project research
on arts-based gentrification.
Welcome to the C District examined the transformation of Liberty Avenue and questioned the role that private interests play in shaping the urban environment.
Characters were modeled after both real-life and fictitious individuals generally associated with Pittsburgh, and with Liberty Avenue in particular.
Using a non-linear narrative, the performance represented various constituencies that frequent Liberty Avenue. The characters voiced conflicting
interests and desires, embodying the invisible struggle to claim space and influence development in the city.
