Clear-Cut or How to Determine Who is Responsible for Your Death, 2016

A single channel looping video.

Clear-Cut or How to Determine Who is Responsible for Your Death is a montage exploration of power, performance, and gender framed in relation to an anonymous question posed at an artist lecture. This video uses imagery of workers in extraction industries and the landscapes they inhabit, tropical birds engaged in a mating ritual, and a carbon cycle infographic framed within a glowing theater curtain to conflate the creative output of a male artist with the invasive and penetrating earthwork of the energy industry. The female questioner initially performs an identity associated with the figure of the young girl, but her position shifts as her question goes through stages of flirtation and accusation.
