SEARCHING FOR THE FOURTH RIVER, 2004
public action, performance with Fereshteh Toosi

In the summer of 2003, Fereshteh Toosi and I developed “Searching for the Fourth River” as an opportunity for dialogue about Pittsburgh’s geography and collective memory. This performance piece was constructed around the fictional premise of two private investigators and the public interest group that hired them to find the mysterious underground fourth river. The fourth river is a popular urban legend in Pittsburgh. Many people claim to have seen it, and it does have some basis in fact.
