SEARCHING FOR THE FOURTH RIVER, 2004
public action, performance with Fereshteh Toosi

Our performance in “Searching for the Fourth River” was built over time, through the exchanging of stories and development of our characters. Toosi and I agreed from the beginning not to research the origins of the legend, or if it had any basis in fact, until after we had completed the interviews and exchanges with Pittsburghers. Our thinking was that to come from a place of unknowing ourselves, would both be more interesting, and resist a power dynamic of being the expert in the role of inquisitor.

We posted the tips we recieved during the investigation in a downtown storefront and requested more information. We also published this pamphlet to redistribute some of the more fantastic stories and the facts according to a local geologist.
