This essay film weaves together a memory of hawk babies nesting outside the filmmaker’s window and Hollywood’s use of the red-tailed hawk cry as a stock sound effect to signal danger and threat. Highlighting this auditory disconnect between the real and the represented, No Matter What raises questions about our connection to the natural world amidst a diminishing sonic landscape.
