Two-channel video installation, 4’38” minute loop
In this video work a woman carries and pulls a large blank MDF board through different economic and cultural zones in New York City: the financial district, the gallery district, the discount shop district of Chinatown. These scenes play off against everyday street images of commodity items—things in the process of being sold or rented, banners, and blinking lights—in a non-linear progression without resolution.
This work is part of an ongoing series of projects developed around concepts of value and transformation. This work takes on the ambiguity of value as a concept and social mechanism within the realms of art, economics and everyday life, drawing on readings in anthropology and economics, and considerations of current political conditions in North America.
